A Love That Can Weather The Storm | WV Wedding
You always have those events that stay in your memory for years to come. Jacquelyn and Caleb’s wedding is definitely one that we will NEVER forget! We met Jackie and Caleb at a Bridal Show in Huntington and we immediately fell in love with how in love the two of them were! They were so sweet and loving with one another, not to mention they had a great outlook on life. With their medical school schedule Jackie knew she would need more than a little help with making sure that their dream wedding became a reality, and we were more than happy to help with their planning, coordination, and catering needs.
The bride and groom wanted down home and friendly back yard barbecue, but with a touch of elegance. The location had to have beautiful country scenery, so we chose the Heritage Farm Museum in Huntington, WV as their ceremony and reception venue. They wanted their guests to be comfortable and to have a good time. With a June wedding, the weather can be unpredictable. We were expecting maybe an increase in heat or even some rain and we were prepared to move the event inside their rustic chapel and barn inspired loft. What we didn’t plan for was the derecho storm that blew through the area, tearing down tress, knocking out power, and crippling the city the night before their wedding!
Not long after the rehearsal is when the storm hit. No one was aware of how bad Heritage Farms was until the next morning. Needless to say, there was NO WAY a wedding was going to take place there that day. Thankfully, over the years I had formed relationships with other wedding vendors and venues and was able to call the manager at the Palms Reception Hall to see if they had any openings for their Big Day. And thank God she did! The ceremony was moved to their church and the reception location was changed to the Palms. I immediately got to work letting the vendors and guests know of the change while the bride and groom began getting ready for the day!
My favorite moment of the day was talking to the bride’s grandmother. She was one of the sweetest women I have ever met at a wedding and she was so appreciative of everything we did to make her grandbaby happy on her wedding day. I remember pinning the corsage to her suit jacket, and her telling me about her own wedding day and how it felt like it was yesterday. The smile on Gram’s face when Jackie walked down the aisle was unforgettable.
Jackie wanted her décor to compliment with her natural surroundings. Of course, when the location was moved, we lost some of the nature feel, but the décor still matched seamlessly with the banquet room. Perry and James florists created varying shades of green in the bouquets of the bridal party. The green and white floral centerpieces and décor elements paired with the natural wood color of the reception chairs rented from A to Z Rentals created an outside feel in their reception venue. Green flowers cascaded down the wedding cake as Jackie and Caleb took their first bites of the custom cake made by Suz Catering.
